PortalPlayer Signs Japanese Distributor Takachiho Koheki

Fifty-Year Veteran of Importing Western Technology Into Japan to Sell Market Leading Personal Media Player Platforms

Santa Clara, Calif., April 11, 2005 - PortalPlayer, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLAY), a leading supplier of advanced semiconductor, firmware and software solutions for the MP3 personal media player market, today announced it has signed Takachiho Koheki Co., Ltd. of Tokyo to distribute PortalPlayer's industry leading platforms for personal media players in Japan.

Takachiho Koheki is one of Japan's leading distributors of electronics components to consumer electronics manufacturers and mobile phone makers. PortalPlayer's platforms are used to produce high-performance, feature rich personal media players in a cost-effective manner with fast time to market.

The worldwide market for flash- and hard drive-based portable media players is expected to increase from 35.9 million players shipped in 2004 to 82.3 million players shipping in 2007 (Source: IDC, December 2004). PortalPlayer's platforms are used in 92 percent of hard drive-based personal media players shipped in the United States, according to the NPD Group (December 2004).
