The PortalPlayer Firmware Engineering Group designs, develops and deploys state-of-the-art firmware and applications that support digital music devices. It is a demanding responsibility requiring embedded firmware engineering and working with multi-vendor software and hardware.

You will develop embedded device drivers and highly power optimized firmware stacks for digital data compression/ decompression and encryption/ decryption technologies. You will develop complex architectures and code which may include performing in a team of firmware engineers with the responsibility to deliver a suite of code. In this position you may be responsible for assisting removing roadblocks impeding development. You will be required to solve customer problems identified by sales and marketing, and diagnose and troubleshoot customer problems.

Successful applicants will assist with developing test and Benchmarking infrastructure, and with identification of opportunities consistent with product capabilities. You may also be required to track and advise on evolving/developing related firmware technologies. You should have a concept of consumer appliances and ability to analyze the usability of audio players and its user interface.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge and understanding of ARM architecture/technology
  • C, C++ and assembly language knowledge
  • Excellent debugging skills
  • Experience with various debug tools
  • Knowledge of various bus architectures, such as USB, 1394, IDE etc.
  • Knowledge of various communications and networking protocols
  • Experience in developing compression and decompression technologies for audio, speech and music data
  • Knowledge of data security, digital right management and encryption / decryption technologies
  • Experience with developing power optimized code suitable for battery powered embedded devices
  • Experience with mathematical algorithms development
  • Ability to create technical documentation
  • Experience with development of reference kits
  • Education: Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
