PortalPlayer Named Company of the Year at EE Times
ACE Awards
Industry influencers recognize
PortalPlayer as Company of the Year -- Small/Medium based on technology
innovation and financial growth
SAN JOSE, Calif., April. 6, 2006 PortalPlayer Inc.
(Nasdaq: PLAY), a leading supplier of semiconductors, firmware and
software for personal media players and secondary display-enabled
notebook computers, today announced that it has won the EE Times
Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Award for Company of the
Year -- Small/Medium. This award recognizes the small- or medium-sized
company that exhibits the highest degree of professionalism in staff
development and retention, customer focus, technical excellence
and profitable growth -- a true leader in the electronics sector
(under $1 billion in sales).
"PortalPlayer won the ACE Award for Company of the Year --
Small/Medium because its solutions power many of today's leading
MP3 players," said Brian Fuller, publisher and editor in chief,
EE Times. "The company is leveraging its engineering and design
expertise to help system OEMs create battery-powered, portable devices
that capture, store and play digital media including audio, photos
and video."
The EE Times ACE Awards were created to recognize the people, companies
and products that show leadership in the electronics industry, honoring
those who are leading the way and making positive contributions
-- the real innovators of technology. Finalists were evaluated by
a prestigious panel of judges, comprised of the leading voices of
academia, industry and Wall Street executives. Awards were presented
at the EE Times ACE Awards Gala on April 4, 2006, during CMP Media's
Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley. For more information,

PortalPlayer's comprehensive portable multimedia platforms, including
semiconductors, firmware and applications software, enable customers
to develop differentiated devices rapidly and cost effectively.
Breakthroughs in 2005 included the introduction of the PP5022 system-on-chip
media processor that, in combination with the PortalPlayer firmware,
provided three times the battery life of previous generations without
sacrificing performance. PortalPlayer also introduced the PP5024,
the company's first system-in-package that provides a complete mixed-signal
solution.
Through these innovations, PortalPlayer has experienced significant
revenue growth and profitability. Net revenue for fiscal 2005 was
$225.2 million, up 143 percent from $92.6 million for fiscal 2004.
Net income for fiscal 2005 was $48.2 million compared with a net
income of $10.4 million in fiscal 2004.
The company's recent performance also has been recognized by other
industry influencers. In addition to the ACE Award, the April 2006
issue of Electronic Business magazine ranked PortalPlayer No. 1
in the 30 Best Small Electronics Companies with annual revenues
below $240 million. This follows the December award from the Fabless
Semiconductor Association for Outstanding Financial Performance
by a Public Fabless Company.
"This prestigious EE Times ACE Award recognizes that our comprehensive
platform strategy enables our customers to quickly produce differentiated
products with the latest multimedia features and intuitive user
interfaces that resonate with consumers," said Gary Johnson,
president and CEO of PortalPlayer. "As we leverage our approach
into new market areas, we look forward to continuing the enablement
of electronics products that people love."
As a recognized innovator and leader in the consumer electronics
market place, PortalPlayer has been chosen to participate in the
"Portable Devices as Extensions to the Connected Home"
panel at CONNECTIONS: The Digital Home Conference and Showcase
in May. Produced by Parks Associates in partnership with the Consumer
Electronics Association, CONNECTIONS has been recognized as the
largest executive conference dedicated to advanced digital lifestyle
solutions for residential and mobile environments.
