senior programmer writer (contract)
Location(s): Kirkland, WA
PortalPlayer, Inc. seeks a senior-level programmer
writer for a 6-month contract beginning in August to write software
developer documentation for our COM-based SDK. Contractor will work
onsite in our Kirkland, WA office.
Applicants must demonstrate an understanding of COM
and C/C++ reading proficiency during the interview, and must take
a 30-minute writing test that requires no technical knowledge.
Duties
- Update existing SDK documentation to match current state of
the product
- Research and write API reference material, programming guide
tutorials, and how-to information
- Work with editor to meet style guidelines and production needs
- Perform these tasks (and other tasks if requested) with little
supervision
Requirements
- 5 years technical writing experience for software developer
audiences, with recent samples
- Minimum of 1 year programming experience
- Understanding of COM and a proficiency at reading C/C++ code
- Ability to learn rapidly the technical details of software development
kits
- Experience interviewing software engineers
- Experience using style sheets and formal project management
processes
- Ability to meet deadlines or adapt to deadline changes when
necessary
In addition, applicants demonstrating any of the following will
be given preference in hiring:
- A passion for writing and learning in software development
environments
- A bachelor's degree or higher in any related discipline
- Additional years of professional technical writing experience
or computer programming
- Experience using Microsoft Manual of Style for Technical Publications
